Experience
Senior Front-End Web Developer
Trimble Maps / Trimble Inc.
2006 - 2026
- Most recently I've primarily worked as lead front-end UI/UX engineer on several Enterprise SaaS Angular web apps, including PC*Miler Web and Maps Toolbox. I worked closely with designers, engineers and project managers building many components for use in our mapping web apps. I also worked on the CSS and accessibility for the Trimble Maps JavaScript SDK product as well as creating examples and demos for the SDK.
- Designed, built and managed the Trimble Maps Developer portal website using the static site generator Hugo. It auto-builds when changes are pushed to GitHub so technical writers can write the docs in markdown. It has expanded greatly since launch and now hosts documentation for all the companies products and services.
- Lead developer on Modus Bootstrap, an open-source fork of Bootstrap with styles based on the company's Modus style guide/design system which I also built and managed. The project was sponsored by Netlify.
- Created and manage a complete open source icon library (Modus Icons) website for the company which offered the icons as SVG sprites, CSS variables, SVG downloads and icon fonts. I created build, release scripts with Node.JS and GitHub Actions.
- Built and managed many high traffic static marketing/product websites built with the Hugo static site generator (and prior to that Classic ASP). Setup Google Analytics, Google Search Console and worked with marketing and product teams to add new pages and features.
- Built and managed the Europe CoPilot GPS webstore selling physical and download GPS navigation software for Windows Mobile with payment integrations with WorldPay and PayPal.
- Worked on the UI for CoPilot Navigation apps for portable navigation apps sold by third-party hardware companies such as Acer and HTC.
Webmaster / Digital Media Designer
Hooj Choons
1999 - 2006
- I worked as webmaster and graphic designer for this record label and was also involved with promotions and marketing. I designed more than 50 record labels/album sleeves including The Sound of the Cosmos by Tom Middleton (Album of the month in Muzik, Ministry of Sound magazine, Seven, Mixmag and DJ Magazine), Nu Progressive Era and Omid 16B's 'How to Live 100 years'
- I worked on partnerships with Apple and RealPlayer to offer live-recorded streams of DJ sets from our One Nation event at the Miami Winter Music Festival via Apple's Quicktime Player and RealPlayer.
- I designed and setup our webstores, hooj.com and then city16.com and oversaw the setup and running of the first secure electronic music download site (partnering with DX3 and Microsoft Windows Media) in the UK, which launched in Europe before iTunes.
Open Source
- I’m the maintainer of HTMLHint (the most popular HTML linter), a co-maintainer of HTML5 Boilerplate (the most popular front-end template) and a regular contributor to Bootstrap (the most popular front-end component library). I’ve created and maintained several popular projects myself including Bootstrap-Forced-Colors-CSS for Bootstrap / Windows. - Bootstrap-ie11 (the most popular IE11 CSS polyfill for Bootstrap 5) which currently gets 3 million hits per month as well as some browser extensions and other projects.
-
I've also created a few iOS/iPadOS apps as a hobby:
- WebDevTools+ - As an iPad owning web developer I'd often been frustrated at the lack of desktop-class developer tools available in Safari so I built one and added many of the features a user would expect from a desktop, but right on their iPhone or iPad. It's mostly created with JavaScript.
- PokeIndex - In 2012 I designed and coded a native Pokemon database iPhone app (using Objective C) which sold 5000 units on the App Store. I added many customer requested features and additional stats. I recently rebuilt it with Swift/SwiftUI and added many new features and translations (including Japanese!).
- Vita Forever - a complete game database for the PlayStation Vita. Built with Cursor, a native iOS database framework. It has a complete list of all Vita games, with box art, screenshots, videos and links to the PlayStation Store.
